Released in 2021, the X-E4 stripped Fujifilm's compact rangefinder-styled line down to a genuinely minimal, dial-light body with almost no front grip — a design choice that made it exceptionally pocketable, though Fujifilm discontinued the line afterward, leaving it without a direct successor.

Fujifilm removed the front grip almost entirely on the X-E4 compared to the X-E3 it replaced, prioritizing a flat, minimal profile that some photographers found less secure to hold with larger lenses attached — a genuine ergonomic tradeoff for its exceptionally compact size. Fujifilm also removed the X-E3's dedicated focus lever in favor of a simpler touchscreen-driven interface, a genuine control-scheme simplification that some longtime X-E series users found less precise for quick manual focus-point selection. A tradeoff some longtime series owners genuinely missed once the dedicated lever was gone entirely.
Fujifilm also gave the X-E4 a genuinely fast hybrid autofocus system inherited from its larger X-T4 sibling, packing flagship-level tracking performance into a considerably smaller, lighter body.
