The GFX 100S also introduced in-body image stabilization rated up to 6 stops, a genuinely difficult engineering feat on a medium-format sensor given the larger, heavier sensor-shift mechanism required, and a real practical enabler for handheld medium-format shooting. Its autofocus system was also genuinely faster than the original GFX 100's, a real practical improvement for a medium-format body, narrowing the responsiveness gap against full-frame mirrorless competitors that medium format has traditionally struggled to match.
Fujifilm also gave the GFX 100S a substantially lighter body than the original GFX 100, roughly a third less weight, a genuine ergonomic achievement for a 102-megapixel medium-format sensor.
